My husband, a professional musician, dabbles in video and he made this video, and played the background music! It really helps to see, visually, how I make all these hats. It is easier than trying to just explain it in words. The machine is an old chainstitch machine that is at least 60 years old, possibly much older. It is specific to the millinery industry. I just love sewing a hat on it, even after 20 years, it feels like a fresh sculpture is coming into the world right before my eyes. The finishing steps can be just as rewarding, but the transformation that takes place from strand to structured piece is a precious thing.
